DDG is standing up for his family.
Days after Halle Bailey called him out for appearing on a Twitch livestream with their 11-month-old son Halo, the “Moonwalking in Calabasas” rapper is asking the internet to stop the hate towards his ex-girlfriend.
“One thing I don’t like when people do, I don’t like when people hate on Halle,” the 27-year-old told fans in a Nov. 7 YouTube video. “I don’t care if you think she’s wrong or not, or if I think she’s wrong or not, she could be going through something mentally after having a kid that I, as a man, cannot understand. So when situations like this happen, I try to handle it with as much grace as possible.”
Halle, 24, and DDG, who welcomed their son in December 2023, confirmed they ended their relationship in October. But he stressed they are working hard as co-parents to create a great life for their son and that he has “unconditional love and respect” for his ex.
“Because Halo needs her. I need her,” DDG said. “We need each other to create a childhood that’s safe and fun and memorable for him.”
And as they navigate this next chapter as a family, they’ll be doing so together.
“We going through a very different transition, we only been parents for 10 months, we going through a little break up, we going through something that’s hard for us,” DDG (whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) noted. “I just don’t appreciate when people try to put me against her.”
Referring to Halle’s mentioning “experiencing severe postpartum” in the since-deleted social media post, he emphasized that a lot of fans weighing in simply couldn’t understand what she’s battled.
“Mentally y’all don’t know what you’re going through when it comes to postpartum,” DDG explained. “She just pushed a whole human out, she is dealing with a whole new life. She has to always consider Halo in every situation.”
And when it comes to where he and the Color Purple actress stand, he added, “We are family. That is my family forever. And we gonna figure it out.”
While Halle initially deleted her social media accounts following her heated posts about DDG’s appearance on Kai Cenat’s livestream, she later returned to social media to address her initial reaction.
“yesterday maybe i did overreact and shouldn’t have brought it here,” she wrote on Nov. 7. “i know that halo is always safe with his dad. i just don’t like finding out with the rest of the world what my baby is doing. thank u kai for the gifts for halo.”
